Meet the Newest Member of the Family…Molly!

We had been waiting since December to adopt a dog from Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue.  We specifically wanted a young female who is great with kids.  Apparently, there are a lot more males that need rescuing!  Also, the association is very careful when placing a dog in a home with a young family because they are rather large dogs.  Well, last week one of the foster moms contacted me that she had the perfect match.  The only problem was that she was a bit older than we wanted.  I really don't find this to be a problem if the dog is great with kids!  After many emails, we were set to drive 2 hours to Michigan to pick up Molly.

The morning of the drive, it actually snowed!  Thankfully, this did not affect our drive as we left after morning traffic.  The drive there was uneventful and we arrived at the restaurant parking lot early.  Molly's foster dad arrived shortly after and explained Molly's habits and that she LOVES balls.  He then gave us our welcome bag full or toys and treats, and we were on our way home.

Molly sat in the back, but her head was on our console.  She desperately wanted to climb into the front seat!  She kept busy by tearing apart 2 balls and even took a short nap.  Upon arriving at home, she went right to the back door and pawed it to go out.

We set up her drink and food bowls and hung out with her.  The kids were absolutely enamored!  We were a bit worried as to where she would sleep.  The lady told us that she loved to sleep in the kids' beds.  I was a bit worried about this as she is quite the large dog.  Turned out she was so exhausted from her journey that she passed out on the couch.

Molly came from a home that couldn't afford her anymore.  The association offered to help pay for her, but the family still turned her over.  She is 6 years old and fully potty trained, does not need crating, and is wonderful with dogs.  Her foster mom told us that she didn't even need to be leashed and came as soon as called.  Her only fault is that she is super afraid of storms.  All dogs are scared to some degree, but Molly gets extremely anxious.  She doesn't cause any damage, she just paces and pants a lot!

Joe and Anola were kind enough to give us George's bed that he doesn't use.  This is now upstairs in our room where she sleeps.  We found out the second night that she did not want to be alone.  Again, we didn't want her in the kids' rooms, so we compromised with letting her in our room.

The kids love to wrap her up in blankets and lay with her.  Not so sure that this big girl likes the heat from the blankets as much as our little dogs used to.

This is a pic of Molly the morning after a storm.  She was up most of the night pacing and panting.  Poor girl is so scared!  She was one tired pup!

We are so happy to have a family dog again.  Molly is the most well behaved dog.  She is so smart.  Someone spent a lot of time training her and it definitely shows!
