The Fever That Wouldn't Go Away

Since the Saturday before Easter till Wednesday afternoon, my little Abby has been very sick. This was the fever that would not go away. The kids have only had a fever a couple of times and usually it goes away with medicine. This time Abby's would only go down to about 100 degrees and just stay there and then climb. The highest it climbed was 105!

We decided to take her to the pediatrician on Monday, but they couldn't do anything. They said to try to keep her comfortable and that the virus had to work its way out.

Abs spent so much time on the couch with a cold washcloth on her head. We had to practically force her to drink anything. And don't get me started on her eating, or lack thereof. I know she has lost so much weight. When they weighed her at the doc they said 27 lbs. She is so tall and thin!

Every night she ended up in our bed because we wanted to monitor her temp. Tuesday night she finally started to sweat and was fever free, or so we thought! By 1opm her fever came back and she was in bed with us. None of us got much sleep that night and on Wednesday morning, around 4am, we decided to take her to the ER because she was just so uncomfortable and this had been going on for too long. My dad came over to watch the sleeping boys and we were off. We got right in and they started with giving her some medicine. Her temp was 103. We were put into a room and she was not happy. They tried giving her a popsicle and juice. No go! The doc then came in and asked if we wanted to give her an IV. He said that she didn't look dehydrated and we decided that it would be more painful for her. She did drink liquids at home for us.

We ended up being sent home with some antibiotics. That night, she was fever free! By Thursday morning, she had slept in her own bed and was ready to play and eat.

Wow! That was a bit scary for us, but I'm thankful that Chris was home for all this. Not to mention that both Chris and I got sick as well!

Can't wait for the warm weather to come and stay so we can disinfect this house from top to bottom!
