Our First Road Trip-Day 1

Well, after almost 3 years, we finally decided it was time to try out a family vacation. Our friends live in Kentucky, near Cincinnati, and we thought they were the perfect ones to visit! It was a short 5 hour drive so if the kids didn't cooperate, we could just come home.

We left early on Sunday morning. The kids ate their donuts and drank their milk in the car. Joe and Anola let us borrow their portable DVD player for the car. This turned out to be the best ever! We made 1 bathroom pit stop, and then a stop at McDonald's for lunch. We lost an hour traveling there because of the time change but still arrived in the early afternoon.

Dyane and Darrell were the absolute best hosts. They had so many great ideas of how to spend our time. Our first stop was to Otter World! This place is an indoor play area with an outdoor area as well. The kids loved the water area, puppet show, block building, and pet exhibit. That was just indoors!

We then went outdoors where they had this super cute pond and magnetic fishing poles so the kids could try it out.

As if that wasn't all, they had a spray area. The best part was that there was nobody there!

Then we headed indoors to the last part of the place, which was this giant slide/climber thing and ball pit. The kids were ecstatic to go down the slides and throw balls.
After leaving there, we decided to go to a nearby church carnival. Another first for the kids...a carnival ride! $7.50 later and the kids are pros.

Chris loved this place because there were some betting areas. It was a really great place, the only downside being the extremely hot temperature!

After the carnival, we headed back to their house for dinner. And we had another first...making our own pizzas! Darrell let them put on sauce, mushrooms, pepperoni, pineapple, and cheese. Could they be any happier?!


Abby almost finished her entire pizza and the boys were hounding me when I was eating mine!

Nighttime was the part that we were a bit worried about. We stayed downstairs where there was a bed and we brought along our air mattress. We also carted along almost every single pillow pet, stuffed animal, and blanket that we owned! The kids were actually excited to be staying somewhere else and were jumping all over. Josh made himself at home and just plopped down on a pillow. Chris and I just laid with them and they eventually fell asleep. Guess what? So did we! So much for going upstairs and socializing!
